下圖 是一篇有關Mickael Jackson的漫畫 也是我這次作文的題目囉
而我的作文就是要解釋這篇漫畫 ^^ This is a research essay
Michael Jackson is a popular singer, songwriter, dancer and celebrity icon with a lot of hit records and countless awards to his credit (“About Michael Jackson”).
Some people think he is the world’s greatest entertainer (Reid 24).
He grew up surrounded by famous people and an adoring public.
At age five, Michael Jackson and his brothers were the amazing Jackson 5 (“A photographic”).
At age eleven, he became a superstar and performed Motown’s successful family act (“About Michael Jackson”).
Michael Jackson had so many amazing achievements.
One of the most famous was his gravity-defying “moonwalk.”
His first performance of Billie Jean is one of the most electrifying dance routines in television history (Cave144).
According to Antonio Reid’s article in Rolling Stone,
“Michael Jackson has influenced so many artists, some of whom are picking up on the grandeur
and showmanship of his live performances.
He has influence on his sister Janet, on Justin Timberlake, Usher, Britney Spears, and on Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey;
and also has influence on the dance moves - the syncopated choreography - that a lot of young artists use.
A lot of them have picked up his work ethic as well” (Reid 124).
Michael Jackson’s every move was reported and analyzed by the media,
and his quirks became headlines for a period of years.
Some of his behavior caused real controversy,
driving him to exile abroad or behind the walls of the fantasy-filled property
he called “Neverland” in California (“About Michael Jackson”).
Neverland is instead a “Disneyland-like” environment that is an “invitation to be childlike” to all those who visit,
whatever age, young or old. Michael Jackson said he created a place for children to have fun, to be free, spontaneous and innocent.
And he has done that, opening his home on countless occasions for thousands of children, many of them ill from inner-cities (“The jury will…”).
Michael Jackson helped a boy who was suffering from cancer two years ago.
He had taken the boy’s family with him on vacation for several months (Pfeifer B3).
The mother said Jackson slept with her son in his room and took a separate room for the mother and her daughter during the vacation.
She also said she let her son slept with Jackson during unaccompanied visits to Neverland (Pfeifer B3).
But “Michael Jackson thinks everybody understands when he says that sleeping in beds with kids is OK because there should be ‘more love in the world’”(Taibbi 35+).
Now Michael Jackson is accused of sexually abusing the young boy.
Michael Jackson was subpoenaed to court on charges of child molestation.
In the cartoon which was published in The Orlando Sentinel on April 4, Dana Summers’ drawing shows Jackson wearing pajamas to court and holding a teddy bear.
He also wears a pair of cute slippers that have rabbits on the top.
He stands in front of the judge looking like a cherubic child. He keeps silent and listens to the judge.
The judge, who looks angry and taps his gavel said,
“The defendant will refrain from wearing pajamas to court! You’re scaring the kids!”
However, Michael Jackson displayed no reaction about it.
Summers implies that Michael Jackson has some quirks and seems to like dressing as a child and sleeping with kids.
In fact, Michael Jackson did wear pajamas to court.
It happened when Jackson simply failed to show up in court on a day when his actual accuser was scheduled to testify,
Michael Jackson's lawyer made the excuse that his client has “severe back pains” to the judge;
then Jackson eventually arrived to court in pajamas (Taibbi 35+).
The Michael Jackson trial is still going on.
The specific charges against him are these: that he provided alcohol to his victim and then had “substantial sexual conduct” with the boy on several occasions in 2003.
Jackson is also charged with plotting to cover up the crime by threatening the boy’s family and virtually imprisoning them at his Neverland Ranch (Wilkinson 13+).
On the other side, the accuser’s mother seemed to return to Neverland, of her own free will,
three times during this time she claims she was “falsely imprisoned.”
Actually, she spent her “false imprisonment” in various luxury hotels and spent a lot of money on shopping (“The jury will…”).
The whole trial is turning into a freak show.
It is impossible to say who will win or lose.
According to Tina Brown's article in The Washington Post,
“Even the people who are absolutely sure he’s guilty don’t want to stop listening on their iPods to ‘Thriller’ and ‘Billie Jean.’
That's a question neither conviction nor acquittal can answer yet
—whether Jackson will be remembered for the shame or for the art” (Brown C01).
